If you don’t have anything nice to say…

I was always taught that if you don’t have anything nice to say, you don’t say anything. But that old adage does’t apply to David Montoya.

He finds fault with the BGCT raising funds and awareness for the hungry in Texas and he slams it as much ado about nothing.  Instead he uses it as an excuse to stand mentally outside the “Building” and proceed to throw rocks at it.

I thought the tone of his new blog was gonna be more supportive and positive. That’s is like asking rattlesnakes not to have poison. He really should start his own convention. That is what happened more than 100 years ago, and maybe it is high time he just pull out of the BGCT he so hates and either join the SBTC or start his own convention. He and Rick could be the catalyst for a new and perfect convention.

I remember in the seventies the bumper sticker that said, “America, love it or leave it.” In the same mindset, Montoya and his followers should do the same in regards to the  BGCT.

He can’t say anything nice about the BGCT, then he should get a divorce and let it go. The marriage between he and the convention just aint working out. It is time to cut his  loses and move on.

Don’t get me wrong the BGCT is anything but perfect, it is an human institution afterall. And neither are we perfect, but like all we strive for holiness and we fail often and fall on the mercy seat of our Heavenly Father. There but for the grace of God go you and I.

Well, well, well, Joshua (assuming that is your real name) you really hit a nerve with Montoya/Davis. I don’t know what is or isn’t true about what you wrote but they are both calling me trash for publishing it.
Never mind that they have done the same for years.

By the way Davis, who is “Julia” you mention that I trashed, aint got a clue who you are talking about?

I would respond on thier respective blogs but alas they won’t let me. They are into selective journalism/information.

Hello Blog readers of the Wacky Pracher: (Posted in similar form else where on another Blog)

It never ceases to amaze me how the average guy in the church pew loves to be the personal time keeper and event recorder for the pastor. If Joshua actually knew how many hours the average pastor spends on the job, he would be ashamed for these comments (and vote for the pastor to receive a RAISE!!! LOL) It’s really funny and abusurd, and really does not deserve further comment, but:

The typical / average pastor spends:

    1) 15-25 hours/week studying and preparing for sermons. And yes, with modern technology, this can be done anyplace you can sit your laptop and / or obtain a WiFi connection. ** Actually, I get about twice as much studying done per hour outside the office as inside (due to fewer interruptions) at a cafe, park bench, DQ, etc., and 3 to 4 times as much done per hour at home … due to virtually zero interruptions. (in other words, for every 2 hours I study at the office, I can get 3 or 4 times as much done in the same amount done elsewhere.) Plus, it is amazing how much God can use you to minister to people while you are OUTSIDE the office. I pity the pastor who spends his 40 or more hours INSIDE the office. Shame on him.
    2) 10-15 hours/week after hours (after 5:00 PM) doing community events, visiting in homes, talking to people about funeral plans, doing weddings, talking to people at the local schools, etc, etc, etc, etc. This can be 20 or more extra hours /week some weeks!!!
    3) 20 – 30 hours/week in the office doing typical pastoral-office type stuff.
    4) 3 to 6 hours/week in personal prayer — praying for self, church, the lost, family, the town, etc. My best prayers are OUTSIDE the office, again due to fewer interruptions, And this is best accomplished outside regular office hours!!

Let’s see, where am I — I am up to 48 to 76 hours/week… and I have not even put in the items that come up at any or all hours of the day or night each week…

… You know, things like a death call at 3:00 AM that takes 2 or 3 extra ours prior to sun up and before most people (like this Josh guy) are even awake. Visiting prospects and others on a Saturday afternoon since that is the only time you can catch them at home. Weddings and rehearsals that take up 3 or so hours on Friday night and another 3 hours on Saturday afternoon. And then there is spending about 2 or 3 hours per week on the phone, also after hours or Saturday … and again due to the only time people can talk on pohone away from their job and office. Being involved in local school and community events that are often and most always after business hours, at night, and weekends.

I have often joked that I wish the church did keep up with my hours and pay me by the hour and 1.5 time for hours over 40! My salary would go up immediatley. I am sure it would for most pastors. I feel confident the folks at FBC B.Wd. would have finally admitted they were actually UNDER PAYING Rick.

Godspeed to Joshua and all others who like to “keep the pastor’s time.” Please do us a favor and get the church to vote to start paying us by the hour.
