Telling Lies to Get Ahead

April 27, 2009

I don’t know if Montoya is telling out and out lies or not. But he seems to think that the reason the Baptist Standard is going to an on-line edition is because of a failing administration. Has he not heard that many, many papers are doing the same?

I don’t read the Standard in paper version. I read it on the internet. Don’t have the time to mess with the paper version and I am not the only one. I don’t even subscibe to the local newspaper. I prefer to glance at the headlines via the on-line edition. The same is true for all of my magazines and newspapers I read.

So to play the cause and effect card in discussing the Baptist Standard is not telling the whole truth. It is peddling in lies to say that the Standard is going on-line due to other nefarious issues. And Montoya is peddling in lies if he really thinks that is the case.

Recently heard lies being spread by some SBTC people regarding the BGCT. I heard two specific lies just today.

One: that when you give through your church to the BGCT, that some of the monies go to CBF. That is a lie. The only way that could happen is if the church chose that giving option. It would have to be voted on by the congregation. The only other way any monies go to CBF is through individual church members doing so. The lie is the notion that no matter what BGCT church you are, the money you give through your local church, goes to CBF. Only if the church has voted to do so.

The second lie: That very soon, the SBTC  will have more churches affiliated with it than are with the BGCT. Actually the SBTC has at most 2000 churches. The BGCT has 5000.  And most of the SBTC churches are dualy aligned with both groups. So the 2000 number may be less.

So the SBTC is resorting to spreading lies in order to convince churches to make the switch. The other lies I have heard over the years are:

The BGCT does not believe in the Bible.

The BGCT supports homosexuality.

The BGCT supports abortion.

The point is that some will lie to gain. And what are they really gaining?

Montoya may not be an out and out liar, but he does stretch the truth to get a point across. I think if anything he is driving churches more and more toward the SBTC. The very group he also does not support. He is doing more harm than good.

He should start his own group and leave the SBTC and the BGCT alone.

Montoya Storytelling

April 24, 2009

Don’t you  just love the thinly hidden karate chops that Montoya is dishing out? He can’t and won’t mention real names, cause he is scared of supposed  persecution and lawsuits. So instead he writes these allegorical stories to “slam” fellow Christians.

I am still waiting for his highly entertaining book on the “inside” story of what really went on in the “Wade Administration”, as he is prone to call it. It was being championed as the great tell all. But alas instead we are to be “entertianed” by his drip, drip, drip of  “Spiritual” insight.

He says he doesn’t support the BGCT anymore, but I wouldn’t be surprised if doesn’t show up at the convention. He has to show his face to his “supporters”. He has to stand at the back of the auditorium, with his shades on so you can’t see his eyes.  He will bow his head slightly in order to look humble.  Be careful he aint shaking hands with some people. He will look funny as he, with only a moments ,to determine if you are friend or foe.

Who knows he may even show up with a bunch of “jack booted” hoods to protect him. I can just see it, he walks in and is surrounded by his biker buddies in leather and boots. All of them with tats showing in all thier glory. Try to get close to him and they will push you back.  You gotta repeat one of his “Stories” verbatim to talk to “the man”.

Why he may even ride in on his motorcycle, followed by many others. What a hoot that would be!!!! And then in will come all of his “karate chop” friends. They could put on a good show of chopping ice with images of Charles Wade, David Currie, Chris Liebrum and others.

So David ya coming to the convention? Or will you stay away in protest? That would suit me just fine. We will have a great time with you off starting your own convention.

Mission Verified

April 22, 2009

Montoya goes on vacation and visits a church for Sunday worship and because of this one small church, he is convinced that his “mission” is worth it.

He states that he can’t support SBT, good for him. But he also says he can’t support the BGCT. Dude aint got no home.

Maybe he could start his own Texas Baptist group. Then he could be the president and do it better than Everett and his staff. NOT.

Most churches I visit with don’t know Montoya or get involved in the political battles thereof.  Most are just too busy serving the Lord to worry about that kind of stuff.

Montoya hasn’t even given Everett much of a spitting chance since he came into office. He has been quick to judge and criticize.  He is free to critique but judge is another thing.

Really, maybe another Baptist group in Texas is the answer for Montoya.  You go dude!

A Response to Montoya

April 14, 2009

Montoya has been pontificating about the state of the BGCT and it’s financial situation. To his diatribe and leeches, I give a hearty: YAWN

Same old, same old, worn out cries from the same old, same old Montoya and his followers are nothing but a big fat YAWN.

He blames the current financial situation on the leadership of the BGCT. Nevermind that the entire country is in an economic downturn. Nevermind that churches are struggling too. Nevermind that church members are having job losses and/or cuts in salaries, which has a logical impact on  giving abilities.

I know of one small town that has lost 1500 jobs at a particular factory and that will trickle down to the local church. So the same is true with the convention.

I would not be surprised if a downsizing will happen with the BGCT. But Montoya and his followers will see “evil” plans being carried out with each cut. The only way the Montoyaites will be happy is if all of the leadership takes a salary cut or something along that line. Better yet, they would love to see some key people they don’t like thrown over board.

Anyway, I just have to YAWN really loud at Montoya’s screeching.

David attacks the other David

April 3, 2009

I guess character attacks are what Montoya is all about. He now turns his “gun” on David Currie. Currie has been a target by many groups over the years, that attacking at this stage is nothing new.

I appreaciate David Currie. He aint perfect by any stretch.  But he is God’s child.  Currie is one of the main reasons why the BGCT is not a fundamentalist organization and we can all be thankful for that. He followed God’s leading to start TBC and protect the convention from “fundies”.

I shutter to think where the convention would be today were it not for TBC. It would be a top down controlled organization. Sign on the dotted line of theological correctness and then maybe you would be accepted. If you are found to be “out of step” with the leadership of the convention, then you would be shunned.

Our associations would be set up as “outpost” points to make sure all the preachers and churches are theologically in line with the accepted creed, namely the BFM 2000. If you didn’t agree with everything in that man made document, then you we would be “kicked” out of the association.

At one point in my ministry, I sought to be ordained as a Southern Baptist and was sooned passed over by others. I soon realized that I didn’t fit the mold of a SBC preacher.  I did not tow the party line on many issues, and so I was deemed unworthy to be ordained.

If not for Currie, how deep would the “fundies” go to cut of the work of God in peoples lives, just because they saw the Bible differently. While in seminary I didn’t accept the “correct” view of Scripture and thus deemed unworthy. Nevermind that I believe the Sciptures to be God’s inspired Word and preach it as such.

If not for Currie, churches would be told who is worthy of being God’s called and anointed.  Local church autonomy would be a thing of the past.  The DOM would by default become “bishops” of the association/ area and tell churches what they could and couldn’t do.

If not for Currie, the only secular viewpoint that is deemed Christian would be Republican.

Understand I am Repubican but  don’t feel that being a Democrat makes one less of a Christian.  TBC has seen to it that both sides are heard on ethics and other political issues.

The list could go on and on. David Currie and TBC is to be thanked for the hard work of keeping our convention safe from “fundies”.

The threat of fundamentalist will always be before us. Just when we think it is gone for good, it raises it’s ugly head and snaps at us.

I remember a church that called a fellow to be their pastor. Within  a month he was “excercising” his “Biblical” mandate as the complete authority over the church. The leadership of the church had been hoodwinked into accepting a fundie as thier pastor and they paid for it. They had to physically remove him from the pulpit. I mean that literally. They carried him out of the church building and pushed him out the door. He felt that the church was his.

So yeah, Montoya the threat is still there. And we must stay alert. It may not be a problem in your church, but it is still a problem in many vulnerable churches.
