Selective Hearing

November 12, 2008

I have posted comments on two prominent blogs, Dr. Rick Davis and David Montoya and have or so it appears been censored, if you will. They say they want to hear from all, but then they “block” my comments. Hmm, selective hearing.

I guess I don’t tow the party line with them and so I am persona non grata. Rick says he wants to hear from all but he has a specific list, you aint on the list, then he doesn’t want to hear from you. Montoya just closes his eyes and does his karate chants I guess.

Well anyway, they are good at throwing critical rocks at others but can’t take them from others.

Now, if for whatever reason I am wrong on my assessment, then I sincerely apologize. I have posted comments on both blogs but they have not appeared on either blog. So I can only assume that they don’t like what I say. HMM, selective hearing.

Blues Brothers Aint Gonna be Happy

November 12, 2008

Even though the Blues Brothers got David Lowrie as the new President of the BGCT/TBC, in no time short they will find something esle to complain about. It is built into the mission statement of their “call” to complain and gripe about just anything in the Building.

I have suggested to David Montoya, that he and Rick Davis er Dr. Rick Davis, go on the road with their Blues Brothers show. They could get a trailer and have it all painted up with thier pictures on the side with the dark sunglasses, fedora and a big black Bible. Wow, how cool would that be? Then they could hit the road with their evangelism trailer. David could do his karate thingy, maybe break a few bricks from the Baptist Building with his head (could knock some sense into him) and chop up what is left of Charles Wade’s desk. He could line up the staff of the BGCT/TBC and break boards held in their hands, oops, did he miss one on purpose and smash Wayne Shuffield’s head?

As a crowd gathers around for the “really big show” (say it like Ed Sullivan), then coming up from cloud of smoke would be Dr. Rick Davis.  With a huge Bible in one hand and several of his favorite philosophy books on a cart behind him, he would begin to “preach” and pontificate. He would use words, most folks have never heard before. The eyes of the crowd would begin to glaze over and people would fall over as if slain in the spirit, but alas it is in the spirit of Davis they have been put to sleep.

To close out the event, they could take up an offering with the black fedoras and say they on are on a mission from God to weed out the corruption in the “Building”. People would shout Amen and dig deep into their wallets and give generously. After the prayer, they would all gather for coffee and listen to Dr. Davis speak from his heart.

Really guys, this could be a big gig for ya. Call the office at the evangelism department of the BGCT/TBC and they might give you some of the valley money to do this work of God. ;)

Congrats to David Lowrie

Good things do come out of Canyon! Congratulations David. Know that I will be praying for you in the next year. Even though it is just for one year, much can be accomplished. God will use you in great and mighty ways.

One Who Can’t Come to BGCT

November 5, 2008

Well as it turns out I will not be able to attend the convention this year. The first one I will have missed since I moved back to Texas. An emergency on my wife’s side of the family precludes me going. She is on her way to California as I write. Pray for my wife’s mother, she is on the edge of going home with the Lord. So I will stay at home with my kids.

I was reading about the idea for a name change for the BGCT. I really like the idea that is being brought forth and would be honored to vote in favor of it. But alas, I can’t be there. Now if the convention were online or at a nearby campus (I live in Abilene), then I could participate and vote. But instead the convention chooses to remain in the last century on that idea.

But I think of all the others who can’t for many different reasons make it to convention and would like to participate. With all the great modern technology, there is no excuse for not putting it to good use. I realize some of the older folks will not be as prone to tie into the new stuff. But the issue is younger involvement and they are savvy with the new tech. So let them put it together and take ownership of the issue.

Could be the new tech is why Obama has won the presidency. He had record youth turnout. He learned how to tap into that and it worked. The Convention could do the same. Imagine all the young people being able to participate in the process and have more ownership of what goes on in the convention.

I realize there may be some who say: “Well that is fine and dandy, but they give very little to convention causes and so they shouldn’t have a say.” I heard this argument at a church I served at. I was reaching college students and one deacon felt it was a waste of time, cause they don’t give to the church.  I suppose reaching children is the same mindset! Anyway, money should not be the reason for not allowing young adults to be involved in the convention.

Sure there are bugs and stuff that have to be worked out to make the off site convention stuff work. But it may well be worth it. The future of the Convention is worth it.
